On June 3, 2026, the Charles University and the National Chengchi University signed a strategic partnership agreement in Taipei, marking a significant milestone in the growing cooperation between the two institutions. The agreement was concluded during an official visit to Taiwan of a Czech delegation led by Senate President Miloš Vystrčil, and aims to deepen collaboration in research, education, academic exchange, and international engagement. The visit also marked the opening of the NCCU’s Czech Classroom.
The signing ceremony brought together representatives of both universities as well as members of the Czech delegation. Representing Charles University, Assoc. Prof. Karel Kouba, Vice-Rector for Accreditation and Quality of Educational Activities at CUNI and coordinator of the SCRC at the Faculty of Arts, signed the agreement together with NCCU President Tsai-yen Li. The ceremony was also attended by SCRC Director David Emler.
The new strategic partnership builds upon an already well-established relationship between CUNI and NCCU. Over recent years, scholars and students from both institutions have engaged in a variety of collaborative activities, with a particular focus on Taiwan studies, political science, international relations, and interdisciplinary research. The agreement provides a framework for expanding these activities through increased mobility opportunities, joint research initiatives, collaborative teaching, and institutional cooperation.
For SCRC, the partnership represents another important step in strengthening academic links between the Czech Republic and Taiwan. During the visit, representatives from both institutions also explored future directions for cooperation between SCRC and its partners at NCCU. The discussions reaffirmed a shared commitment to supporting interdisciplinary research and fostering closer connections between academia, policymakers, and industry stakeholders.
Overall, the signing reflects the shared vision of Charles University and NCCU to address global challenges through international cooperation, academic excellence, and knowledge exchange. It also highlights the growing importance of Czech-Taiwanese academic relations and the role of SCRC in advancing research on resilience and strategic supply chains in an increasingly interconnected world.
