The Czech-Taiwanese cooperation on semiconductor supply chains and the growing presence of Taiwanese investments in Czechia were recently highlighted in an article published by Czech Radio’s iROZHLAS.cz on August 15, 2026. The article titled “Tchajwanské investice hlásí Ústí i Žatec. Čipová továrna TSMC v Drážďanech pomůže i Česku”, explores the growing opportunities for Czech companies and regions arising from the development of Europe’s semiconductor industry.

Among those interviewed for the article is Dr. Adrian Jan Zasina, SCRC researcher at the Faculty of Arts, CUNI. Dr. Zasina explains how the SCRC contributes to helping Taiwanese companies and experts navigate the Czech and European environment. Furthermore, the article also features Prof. Hsien-Ming Lien, Principal Investigator of the SCRC on the NCCU side. Prof. Lien discusses the importance of geographical proximity to the emerging semiconductor hub in Dresden and explains why northern Czechia, particularly the Ústí nad Labem region, can play an important role in the wider semiconductor supply chain. He also highlights practical considerations for attracting Taiwanese professionals, including housing, schools, and other aspects of the local environment.

The article also features Dr. Tomáš Siviček, Manager of International Cooperation at the Innovation Centre of the Ústí Region (ICUK), who discusses the region’s growing attractiveness to Taiwanese investors. Dr. Siviček recalls that Taiwanese business representatives identified Ústí nad Labem as a particularly promising location due to its strategic position between Prague and Dresden, railway connections, energy availability, industrial tradition, and comparatively lower costs than Germany. The growing cooperation between the Ústí region and Taiwan was also reflected in the NCCU delegation’s visit to the region in June 2026, when representatives had the opportunity to meet with local stakeholders and learn more about the region’s economic and innovation ecosystem. Dr. Tomáš Siviček was among the local partners involved in this cooperation.

Taiwanese companies are already preparing investments in the region. These include I-TRANS Global, which plans to produce chemicals used in semiconductor manufacturing, and TaMiCo Žatec, which is preparing a facility in the Triangle industrial zone focused on cleaning and surface treatment of components used in semiconductor production. Therefore, successful cooperation will require not only industrial infrastructure and skilled workers, but also an understanding of legal, cultural, social and geopolitical contexts. This is precisely where the SCRC’s interdisciplinary approach can contribute.
