Dr. Magdalena Pfeiffer from the Faculty of Law, Charles University has published a new research paper in the Czech legal journal Právník titled “Economic Diplomacy of Taiwan and Private International Law.” Her study addresses the complex question of Taiwan’s status in the application of private international law, particularly in light of the growing number of cross-border private-law relationships resulting from Taiwan’s successful economic diplomacy. The author examines whether Czech courts may consider Taiwan a “state” for the purposes of private international law, despite the absence of its formal recognition by the Czech Republic. As economic cooperation with Taiwan intensifies and cross-border commercial and personal relations increase, this issue gains practical as well as theoretical importance.
