Prof. Konrad Young on Taiwan’s Economic Strategy in the Czech Republic, an Interview by iROZHLAS

19.05.2025

In the iROZHLAS article, Prof. Young highlights the Czech Republic as one of the most semiconductor-friendly countries in Europe. He notes that Czechia is increasingly viewed as a strategic partner for Taiwan’s semiconductor industry, especially as companies seek to diversify production beyond Taiwan due to geopolitical tensions with China. The article also recounts Prof. Young’s role in Taiwan’s chip revolution, including the return of Taiwanese engineers from the U.S. in the 1980s. Reflecting on this period, he remarks: “Sixty percent of the success was thanks to divine will, and forty percent due to human effort.”  Moreover, the article notes that Taiwan has already started to invest in Central Europe, like the expansion of ATC’s operations. in the Czech Republic and TSMC’s opening of its first European chip plant in Germany.

His visit was not just symbolic. It reflected real momentum behind deeper Taiwan–Czech collaboration on semiconductor technology, including knowledge transfer, joint research, and long-term investment. The Supply Chain Resilience Center could not be more honored to have hosted Prof. Young and to support these meaningful steps toward a more secure and innovative future.
