SCRC Visits Dresden and Ústí Region to Strengthen International Semiconductor Partnerships

01.07.2026

On June 24, 2026, SCRC organized a study visit to Dresden for the center’s researchers from NCCU and CUNI. The excursion provided participants with a unique opportunity to gain first-hand insights into one of Europe’s leading semiconductor hubs and to strengthen international cooperation between academia, industry, and public institutions in Dresden.

The program began with a meeting at the Dresden Town Hall, where the delegation was welcomed by Dr. Robert Breitner and other representatives of the City of Dresden. During the session, city officials presented Dresden’s long-term strategy for supporting the rapidly growing semiconductor industry and discussed how the city is preparing for major investments, including the establishment of the European Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (ESMC). The discussion also covered urban planning, workforce development, infrastructure, and public-private cooperation, followed by an engaging question-and-answer session.

In the afternoon, the delegation visited the Bosch semiconductor manufacturing plant in Dresden, where they were personally welcomed by Mr. Marek Jakowatz, Chief Financial Officer of Robert Bosch Semiconductor Manufacturing Dresden. Participants learned about the development of the Silicon Saxony ecosystem, and discussed the strategic importance of semiconductor manufacturing in Europe.

The final stop of the day was the Innovation Center Ústí Region (ICUK), where the delegation met with Dr. Tomáš Siviček, the International Cooperation Manager of ICUK. The meeting focused on regional innovation policies, research collaboration, technology transfer, and support for startups and advanced industries, as well as regarding the future cooperation between the Czech and Taiwanese partners.

Overall, the excursion contributed to strengthening relationships and fostering new opportunities for cooperation between Europe and Taiwan.
